It's hard to believe, but in the 1930s and 40s, "Swing" was the popular music of the times. And no one did it better than Benny Goodman, especially when he worked in the small group format. There was a quality of optimism in the music which separates it from all others.
Classically trained, Goodman gathered around him the best musicians of the day, regardless of their color. With Benny always on clarinet, and the likes of Teddy Wilson, Lionel Hampton, Gene Krupa, Charlie Christian, and others, it was simply incredible!
Join us for the centerpiece of NVJS JazzMonth! as top-flight musicians of today give homage to this superb master clarinetist and his unique, uplifting Small Groups. And, as always, our thanks to the wonderful folks at RMW for their style and hospitality!
