Larry Vuckovich meets Trio Balkan Strings – an International Music Event @ St. Archangel Michael Church social hall in Saratoga
Direct from Belgrade, the acclaimed Trio Balkan Strings on tour stops in the Bay Area and fortunately will be heard this Saturday, May 27th in Saratoga. Guitarist Zoran Starcevic and his two sons, Nikola and Zeljko, are also high level guitarists who have toured the world receiving top reviews. A first time meeting with pianist Larry Vuckovich, they will collaborate on a few selections including Larry’s original Serbo Salsa, Gypsy-Roma Mambo – Ochi Chornaya, and some swing as Limehouse Blues. The Belgrade trio specializes ethnic world music from Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania and also does classical selections as well as some Gypsy and American swing. The noted guitarist John McLaughlin has been quoted highly praising this trio. This is an evening not to be missed! Trio Balkan Strings will do selections by themselves and also Larry Vuckovich will perform a few selections in a piano solo format. A special feature of the evening will include some Balkan food specialties along with cocktails.

Two Piano Quartet: A Unique First Time Presentation with Larry Vuckovich & Adam Shulman @ Piedmont Piano
Larry Vuckovich has had exciting two piano duets with such great pianists as Vince Guaraldi, Buddy Montgomery, Hod O'Brien and Lou Levy. Those memories have remained with Larry giving him inspiration to continue this rarely heard concept on today's jazz scene. Larry was honored to be chosen by Vince Guaraldi to become his piano partner in Vince's Powder Keg – Two Piano Quartet. The other performances with Buddy Montgomery, Hod O'Brien and Lou Levy all exemplified stimulating exchange of ideas, melodic lines, various rhythms and harmonies between the two pianists. Audiences always found this concept most rewarding. Pianist Adam Shulman is a first call Bay Area pianist who has strong roots in bebop and contemporary jazz. The rhythm team of Peter Barshay and Akira Tana displays a close chemistry. Don't miss this one!

Collectively these three jazz/Latin veterans have played with the likes of Cal Tjader, Tito Puente, Pete Escovedo, Bobby Hutcherson, Joe Henderson, McCoy Tyner, Paquito D'Rivera, Jose Mangual, & more. One of their specialties is transforming the timeless, beautiful melodies from the Great American Songbook to jazz rhythms and flavors including boleros, cha-chas, mambos, and sambas. The sound of this trio is unique – you're in for an exciting experience... Multilingual vocalist, Valeriana Quevedo will sing some top South American hits including Brazilian favorites and romantic Mexican boleros as well as mambo and cha cha selections. This church space provides an excellent listening atmosphere. This is a special treat for the Southbay listeners. Don't miss this performance!
